Drug Misuse

What is Drug Misuse?

Drug misuse is the use of illegal drugs and the misuse, whether deliberate or unintentional, of prescribed drugs and substances.

Is It My Concern?

Yes. Drug misuse can be a serious problem for both misuser, the business where they work and often for their co-workers. Successfully tackling drug and alcohol misuse can benefit your business by: saving on the cost of recruiting and training new employees to replace those whose employment might be terminated because of untreated misuse; reducing the risks of accidents and much more.

Who Is At Risk?

All kinds of people. There are no stereotypes. Drug and Alcohol Misuse affects us all.

What Are The Signs?

  • Mood changes including aggression and irritability.
  • Tendency to become confused.
  • Poor concentration and lack of energy.
  • Poor performance and time keeping.
  • Absenteeism.
  • Poor relationships with customers, co-workers and management.
  • Dishonesty and theft

What Can I Do as an Employer?

All organisations, large and small, can benefit from a drug and alcohol policy. It is good practice to have a policy even if you dont think you have a problem. Having a policy in place enables you to deal with any future problems that may arise. Cause for Testing and the implementation of Random Testing are far more straightforward when you have adequate policies in place.
