This is a
research project. It will look at the ways in which different cultures
and religions have dealt with alcohol throughout history. It will also
compare drinking habits between the United Kingdom and other cultures.
You
can choose from the following research topics:
- The use
of alcohol by a different religion, for example Islam, Judaism, Hinduism,
Buddhism, Sikhism, Christians
- The use
of alcohol by a different civilisation, for example by the Egyptians,
Incas, Greeks, Romans
- The history
of drinking alcohol in the United Kingdom
- The current
use of alcohol in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, with
particular reference to young people's drinking patterns
- The current
use of alcohol in other countries, with particular reference to young
people's drinking patterns
- The ceremonial
use of alcohol by different cultures and religions currently and historically
- The laws
about alcohol in the United Kingdom and in other countries
You could then try to answer the following questions:
- What were
the different patterns of alcohol use through history?
- What are
the patterns of alcohol use now?
- What are
the differences in the ways people use and have used alcohol?
- Do people
use alcohol just to get drunk?
