Laws
about drugs are very confusing. Let's try to make some
sense of them.
|
|
|
|
- Legal
drugs like alcohol, cigarettes and solvents
are the most popular ones. But there are still rules
about who can buy them and how they can be used.
- Illegal
drugs like speed, cannabis, crack, ecstasy, heroin,
methadone, LSD and magic mushrooms are controlled
under a law called the Misuse
of Drugs Act.
There
are three main crimes that people commit under
this law |
- Possession
- that means having small amounts on you.
- Possession
with the intent to supply - this means
having larger amounts on you which you plan to give
or sell to other people.
- Supply
- this means actually selling illegal drugs,
but somebody could be charged with supply, even
if drugs are given away and not sold. And suppose
Dave or Laura collect money from their mates to
go and buy from a dealer? The law would treat Dave
or Laura just the same as the dealer.
